Cartoon Network has re-titled its upcoming series based on Re-Animated, the boradcaster’s first live-action original movie. Out of Jimmy’s Head will continue the zany adventures of Jimmy Roberts and the cast of animated characters that moved into his head following emergency brain surgery.
Dominic Janes (ER, Wild Hogs) returns as 12-year-old Jimmy Roberts, who had an accident with the park trolley at the famous Gollyworld Park and woke up in the hospital to learn that he was given the frozen brain of famous cartoonist Milt Appleday. The new noodle enables Jimmy to see a whole world of cartoon characters who turn his life upside down wherever he goes.
Also returning to the cast are Matt Knudsen as Sonny, Milt Appleday’s evil son who’s trying to steal his father’s brain back from Jimmy; Bil Dwyer as Jimmy’s Dad and school guidance counselor; Rhea Lando as Yancy, Jimmy’s alien step-sister; and Rachel Quaintance as Jimmy’s Astronaut Mom. New additions include Jon Kent Ethridge II as Craig, Jimmy’s best friend, and Polar Express voicer Tinashe Kashingwe as Robin, Jimmy’s crush. Veteran voice actors Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny, Ellen Greene and Brian Posehn lend their voices to the Appleday cartoon characters that come to life only for Jimmy.
‘With the success of the movie last year, we felt this was the perfect project to launch Cartoon Network into a series featuring live-action characters,’ says Michael Ouweleen, senior VP of programming and development for Cartoon Network. ‘The series will focus on Jimmy and his everyday life at school, which also includes these outrageous animated characters created in the true spirit of Cartoon Network.’
Creators and writers Adam Pava and Tim McKeon will serve as exec producers on the series, along with Eric Kaplan, David Brookwell, Sean McNamara and Bruce Hurwit. Out of Jimmy’s Head is produced by Brookwell McNamara Ent., the company behind the hit show That’s So Raven. Animation is being produced at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, Calif.
