South Africa’s MNET has licensed 195 half-hours of programming from Amberwood Prods., including the animated series The Secret World of Benjamin Bear, Hoze Houndz and Katie & Orbie. MNET, which has positioned itself as a home for responsible kids programming, says Amberwood’s product aligns well with that mission. All three series were commissioned by Canada’s the Family Channel.
‘We are very pleased to continue our relationship with MNET,’ says Jonathan Wiseman, VP of sales and acquisitions at Amberwood Prods. ‘ They are a great broadcast partner and this deal in particular is very meaningful as it demonstrates the worldwide appeal of several Amberwood properties.’
The Secret World of Benjamin Bear explores the world of teddy bears, which come to life and have adventures when their owners turn their backs in the day or go to bed at night. Aimed at kids 408, the series consists of 39 half-hour episodes or 78 11-minute stories and has been sold to more than 80 territories worldwide including France, Germany, Italy andFinland. A third season is currently in production.
Hoze Houndz follows the 2D-animated misadventures of a group of canine residents of Bonehead Hollow. The gang is led by Squirt, who, despite being the smallest guy in town, has the biggest ego and manages to make a mess of things while taking on a string of villains. The series is comprised of 78 half-hour episodes or 156 11-minute stories.
Featuring limited animation in a storybook style, Katie & Orbie revolves around an exuberant five-year-old teetering on the brink of starting school. She spends her time learning, exploring and explaining things to her newfound friend, the small, pink, and inquisitive Orbie. Together they learn about life, with Katie having to stop and explain to Orbie the proper way of doing things. Narrated by well-known comedic actor Leslie Neilson, the show is available as 78 half-hour episodes or 234 seven-minute stories with interstitials.
