The home of network primetime animation may get even more animated as FOX sets out to launch three new animated series to join current ratings grabbers The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and King of the Hill. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the Twentieth Century Fox Television projects will come from Simpsons producer Mike Scully, actor Jack Black and Drawn Together creators Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser.
The Pitts will be an animated version of the short-lived, live-action series Scully got on FOX in 2003. The network is giving the show another shot and may send it straight to series if the two scripts ordered are well received. Like its live-action predecessor, the 2D toon will revolve around the unluckiest family in the world. Scully compares it to The Simpsons‘ annual ‘Treehouse of Horror‘ episode, only it will air every week.
Jack Black is exec producing Relative Insanity, a series about a twenty-something guy whose efforts to get his life on track are constantly being derailed by his crazy family. The show is written by Justin Roiland, who also serves as exec producer, along with Black’s Electric Dynamite producing partner Ben Cooley.
With Drawn Together in what appears to be its final season, creators Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser got the green light to write a script for Mothballs. The show centers on a dysfunctional family living in the nursing home they own and operate. Comedy ensues when the family’s estranged grandfather is put into the tightly run facility and tries to buck the system at every turn.
