Spy Wraps Second Season of Modern Toss

Spy Pictures informed us that it has completed all 96 minutes of animation for the second season of the adult-oriented British sketch comedy series Modern Toss for Channel 4. Adapted from the cult comic-book series created by Mick Bunnage and Jon Link of Modern Toss Ltd., the series debuted in July of 2006 and will resume on Channel 4 with new episodes in the first quarter of 2008. The show was also picked up by Bravo in the U.K. as part of its Adult Swim lineup.

The Modern Toss comics debuted in 2004 and have seen four issues published as separate small-format booklets. Boxtree also published the first two installments as The Modern Toss Book. The property was then brought to the U.S. by Simon & Schuster in November of 2006.

Described by producers as ‘The stink of excellence in a world gone tits up,’ the television series blends live-action and animation in satirizing mundane life with often violent and offensive humor. The show is written and directed by Link and Bunnage, and produced by Jane Harrison. The animated segments are designed to maintain the look and feel of the original comics, which feature crude drawings. Stephen Cavalier of Spy Pictures supervised a team of 14 animators over a six-month period, creating one-off sketches and new situations for such established characters as Mr. Tourette, Alan, Drive By Abuser, Space Arguments and Peace & Quiet.

The first season of Modern Toss will be released on DVD on Nov 26. Fans can also catch up with the popular Alan character via his new Facebook page (Alan Frommoderntoss).
