The recently launched PorchLight Home Entertainment is expending its 2008 DVD distribution catalog with an aggressive acquisitions campaign. The unit has picked up U.S. home video rights to the popular animated FARMkids television series from FARMkids Pty Ltd, as well as the Little Playdates DVD series from The Little Playdates Co. and seven titles from The Trevor Romain Co.
FARMkids is an animated comedy about farm animals that know nothing about living in the country. The pampered city animals have to learn to adjust when they are plucked from their cushy nursery petting zoo and relocated to a rural setting. The show won Australian animation company FARMkids the award for Best Animated TV Series at the Australian Effects and Animation Festival. As the first season nears completion, the team has begun working on season two and a FARMkids movie special, planned for release in 2010. Little Playdates is a live-action DVD series for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers that focuses on teaching positive social behaviors through child-to-child interaction and play. Created by a husband and wife team, the franchise received the 2007 Video of the Year Award by Creative Child magazine and has been featured in Parenting magazine’s 2007 ‘Baby Must Haves’ book.
Trevor Romain is an international children’s advocate and entertainer, who has worked with children worldwide to promote social and emotional fitness. Featuring animation and live-action, his DVDs present powerful messages that prepare children for happy and successful lives and empower families to talk about life’s tough situations in an honest and caring way. The seven DVD titles acquired by Porchlight for distribution include: Taking The ‘Duh’ Out Of Divorce; Bullies Are a Pain In the Brain; Facing Fear Without Freaking Out; How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up; If You Don’t Take Care Of Your Body, Where Else Are You Going To Live?; What On Earth Do You Do When Someone Dies?; and Cliques, Phonies and Other Baloney.
PorchLight launched its home entertainment division in early 2007 and currently distributes the award-winning Wheels on the Bus series, LeapFrog’s holiday special A Tad of Christmas Cheer, The Family Holiday and the Travel With Kids series. Forthcoming titles include the PBS series Adventures From the Book of Virtues.
