The first teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ upcoming superhero reboot, The Incredible Hulk, will debut Wednesday, March 12 on seven different networks at approximately 9:56 p.m. (PT). Those eagerly awaiting a first glimpse at the movie can tune in to MTV, MTVU, MTV2, VH1, Spike TV, Nick at Nite or CMT to see Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Hoping for a summer blockbuster, Universal pictures is releasing the pic in theaters worldwide on June 13, just weeks after the May 2 debut of Iron Man.
Distancing itself from the tepidly received 2003 Ang Lee film, this new incarnation of The Hulk drew more inspiration from the hit ’70 television series starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. The flick finds Norton’s Banner on a desperate search for a cure to the gamma radiation that poisoned his cells and transforms him into the rage-fueled monster known as The Hulk. Liv Tyler from the Lord of the Rings films takes over the role of love interest Betty Ross and William Hurt shows up as nemesis General Thunderbolt Ross, who seeks to capture Banner and brutally exploit his power. Also joining the cast is Tim Roth as a monstrous new adversary dubbed The Abomination, whose destructive strength exceeds even The Hulk’s.
Directed by action specialist Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, Unleashed) from a script by Zak Penn (X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand), The Incredible Hulk features vfx work by Rhythm & Hues Studios, which created its big, green, CG-animated star. Also contributing to the smashing fun is Hydraulx, Pixel Liberation Front, Soho VFX and Image Engine.
Following the on-air premiere, the Hulk trailer will be immediately posted on MTV.com for an exclusive period. It will then begin showing in theaters across the country on Friday, March 14 with prints of Rogue Pictures’ post-apocalyptic actioner Doomsday.
