Studio B Prods., a production subsidiary for DHX Media Ltd., has found a U.S. broadcast partner for its newest animated series, Kid vs. Kat. Jetix has acquired all 52 11-minute or 26 22-minute episodes of the series created by Rob Boutilier. Produced in association YTV Canada and Jetix Europe, the original series aims to entertain kids 6-11 with the exaggerated conflict between a demonically malevolent cat and the beleaguered 10-year-old boy to whom it has taken a demented dislike.
In Kid vs. Kat, Coop’s idyllic life is turned upside-down when his spoiled little sister brings home Kat, a stray of mysterious origin. It’s obvious to Coop that Kat wants to annihilate him, but he has trouble convincing anyone else of the fact because there’s no evidence implicating the evil puss by the time his Dad comes upon the smoking, debris-littered scene.
‘We are thrilled to be bringing Kid vs. Kat to audiences in the U.S. through a strong broadcaster like Jetix U.S.’ says Studio B exec producer Blair Peters. ‘In combination with our existing broadcast agreements with YTV Canada and Jetix Europe, we have secured placement in over one hundred territories across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.’
Headquartered in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Studio B Prods. is the producer of such popular and award-winning properties as Ricky Sprocket’Showbiz Boy (seen on TELETOON and Nickelodeon worldwide), Being Ian, The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers!, Class of the Titans and George of the Jungle, a co-production with Classic Media Inc. and Bullwinkle Studios. Kid vs. Kat is one of two new properties Studio B will launch this year. The other is Martha Speaks, a co-production with WGBH Boston.
