Children’s programming channel KidsCo, a joint venture of NBC Universal, DIC Ent. and Corus Ent., has debuted in Hong Kong via a major broadcast agreement with Hong Kong’s PCCW Now TV. This latest partnership follows on the heels of carriage deals with SingTel’s mio TV in Singapore, the Philippines’ Sky Cable, Korea’s HanaTV and other platform operators in Asia. KidsCo has also signed a deal with the Philippines’ Cable Boss to act as their distributor in that market.
KidsCo is a 24/7 multiplatform channel that features popular animated and live-action television series and feature-length movies primarily from DIC and Corus’ Nelvana. DIC’s programming library includes the hit toons Inspector Gadget, Strawberry Shortcake, Madeline, Dennis the Menace and Care Bears. Nelvana’s catalogue includes such international favorites as Babar, Franklin, The Adventures of Tintin and Rolie Polie Olie.
Utilizing NBC Universal’s state-of-the-art broadcast distribution facility in the U.S., and the company’s international network of affiliates, KidsCo currently airs in Spain, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa. The companies involved anticipate that it will be available in up to 40 territories, including Europe and Latin America, within the next 18 months.
