ER Rubs Magic Lantern for Digital Content

U.K.-based independent media group Entertainment Rights Plc. (ER) has appointed interactive media company Magic Lantern to develop new media content that leverages ER’s library of characters and programs across non-traditional broadcast platforms. In addition to developing original content from existing brands, ER will work with Magic Lantern to create new properties for initial distribution via the web and mobile devices.

Responding to the increased demand for shorter-form content suitable for digital devices and downloads, ER has commissioned Magic Lantern to produce an initial package of 200 shorts based on such established ER programs as Postman Pat, Rupert Bear, Basil Brush, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra, Princess of Power.

‘Today’s generation of children already avidly interact with content in a multi-channel and multi-platform environment, so the opportunities for our characters and 4,300 episodes of digitized content are significant,’ comments Laura Turner Laing, manager of music, live events and digital media for ER. ‘We are delighted to be partnering with Magic Lantern to execute our strategy in this area as, with their expertise and our extensive library and brands, we are ideally placed to reach new and established audiences across a multitude of platforms, whilst maximizing traditional platforms to the benefit of ER’s brand and content portfolio.’

Recently nominated for an international Webby Award, Magic Lantern has won several prestigious industry kudos including the Revolution Award for Best Website for a Media Owner, as well as two International Visual Communication Association (IVCA) awards.
