Scott Pilgrim is adding the world of animation to his list of worlds to conquer.
A scene from Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hit comic book series about a lovable slacker who has to defeat his sweetheart’s seven evil ex-boyfriends to win her heart, is the basis for a pair of animated shorts set to air Aug. 12 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. The shorts are, of course, promoting the Aug. 13 release of the live-action movie adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, starring Michael Cera and directed by Edgar Wright.
The shorts are based on a flashback scene about the origins of the friendship between Scott and Kim Pine that was in the comic but didn’t make it into the feature film. The animation is by Titmouse, with Jason DeMarco producing. Cera provides the voice of Scott, joined by Allison Pill as Kim, Mae Whitman as Lisa and Jason Schwartzman as Simon Lee.
Here’s a quick look at the shorts and a promo spot for them.
The shorts are scheduled to air Thursday night between midnight and 12:30 a.m. (actually early Friday).
