After debuting in fourth place two weeks ago, Disneys animated feature Home on the Range has been enjoying a week at the top of the box office charts. The pics second wind is being attributed to the Easter Holiday letting kids out of school, but strong word of mouth must also be at play.
After a weekend dominated by Mel Gibsons The Passion of the Christ, the light carton comedy earned another $1.8 million Monday to claim the No. 1 spot, where it has stayed throughout the week. Its $31.4 million cume is looking better after a lackluster $14 million opening.
Home on the Range‘s box office reign is sure to come to an abrupt end today as Miramaxs Kill Bill: Vol. 2 and Lions Gates adaptation of Marvel Comics The Punisher enter the ring. However, the toons surprisingly healthy week three take brought a smile to the faces of fans of 2D animation. Directed by Will Finn and John Sanford, the feature is considered Disneys last traditionally drawn major animated release.
