  • “Ultimate” 4K Restoration of ‘Cinderella’ Debuts on Disney+ Aug. 25

“Ultimate” 4K Restoration of ‘Cinderella’ Debuts on Disney+ Aug. 25

Disney+ is set to debut a new restoration of Walt Disney’s 1950 animated classic Cinderella on August 25 during World Princess Week, as part of its centennial salute to Walt Disney Animation Studios and the ongoing Disney100 celebration.

This is the first time that the film will be available to stream in 4K, and it is the culmination of a multi-year effort involving the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key players from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The result is a version of the film that the studio says is restored to its original grandeur, authentic to the artistic ambitions of the Studio’s creative team, and which looks and sounds better than ever.

The restored Cinderella had its festival premiere earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it had won a Golden Bear Award 52 years earlier in its international debut.

“Working with our restoration team along with internal technical experts, outside vendors (like Mike Underwood at Picture Shop Hollywood) and advisors from Walt Disney Animation Studios, we were able to make this 1950 classic look and sound better than ever,” said Kevin Schaeffer, Director of Restoration for Walt Disney Studios. “We began the process by pulling the original nitrate negative from the Library of Congress, and scanning the successive exposure color records in 4K. We then did a cleaning pass to remove dirt and as many artifacts as possible. The current available restoration tools allowed us to produce a sharper and higher quality image than previous efforts. To make sure we didn’t lose any of the detail or artistic choices of the filmmakers, we turned to Disney Animation legends and authorities, including Michael Giaimo and Eric Goldberg.”

Taking input from seasoned Disney artists and animation experts Giaimo and Goldberg and working with Dorothy McKim (special projects and 2D animation producer for Walt Disney Animation Studios) and Bob Bagley (digital imaging manager for Disney Animation), the team was able to restore and preserve the rich colors, contrast and accuracy of the original cels and artwork of Cinderella.

Giaimo, production designer on the upcoming 2023 Disney animated feature, Wish, as well as the two Frozen films and Pocahontas, commented, “It was an honor to work on this restoration with Eric, and to really celebrate the original intent and classic Disney aesthetic of those great artists who worked with Walt, notably the great Mary Blair, and to get that right level of depth and saturation.

Veteran Disney directing animator, director and mentor Goldberg added, “Working with Mike to restore this film was really a labor of love. We both really love the film, and felt strongly that we had to preserve it.  Viewers watching this restoration will see more clarity, but they will also see more subtlety. They’ll see differences in color from shot to shot, and discover how one color works with another.  Mike and I knew what the film was supposed to look like, and it took a lot just getting back to Cinderella having dusty blonde hair and a silver dress. I’m proud that the Studio felt it was important to get this restoration right, and trusted a handful of us to do that.”

Originally released in 1950, Cinderella was hailed for its stylish and experimental look, sophisticated and expressive animation, and delightful storytelling. It was a major hit at the time of its initial release, earned three Oscar nominations, and rescued the Disney studio from a dire financial situation brought on the challenges of the war years. The film was directed by Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske and Clyde Geronimi. The voice cast features Ilene Woods, Eleanor Audley and Verna Felton. The songs are by Mack David, Jerry Livingston and Al Hoffman.

  • Slovakia’s Fest Anča Animation Event Gets Oscar Qualifying Status

Slovakia’s Fest Anča Animation Event Gets Oscar Qualifying Status

Fest Anča International Animation Festival has become the first event in Slovakia to be named an Academy Awards® Qualifying Festival. Two Anča Award-winning short films are eligible to compete in the short film category at the 96th Academy Awards®: the Best Animated Short and Best Slovak Animated Short categories, giving Slovak films a boost in the race to the Oscars henceforth.

“It’s not usual for national festival awards to be qualifying for Oscar nominations. This only proves that the Academy appreciates our official selection and trusts not only our animators but also our jury,” said festival director Ivana Sujová. “This is fantastic news not only for Fest Anča but for all Slovak animators who are now much closer to the Oscars.”

The Academy’s decision reached Fest Anča organizers just a few hours before the official opening of the 16th edition. As previously announced, Best Animated Short for this year’s fest was awarded to Armat by Swiss director Elodie Dermange, while the top Slovak short prize went to Doubt, directed by FAMU (Prague) student Adela Križovenská. These films are therefor automatically eligible for consideration in the Oscar® Animated Short Film competition.

Fest Anča’s team share that the Academy was won over by the qualify of the festival’s official selection for 2023, as well as its roster of winners from recent years. Speaking to the selection goals of the festival, program director Jakub Spevák noted, “The dramaturgical selection favors a fresh film language and puts emphasis on contemporary, progressive animation, which boldly breaks down established practices and in which the author comes up with an original approach. The winners of our festival are often independent filmmakers with a unique style and quality animation. Usually, these are not the names that win at the world’s big festivals. They are new voices, new generations of filmmakers who are changing the nature of contemporary animation with their visions and stories.”

  • Hero4Hire Launches Original Content Division with ‘Fizzy’s Lunch Lab’ on the Menu

Hero4Hire Launches Original Content Division with ‘Fizzy’s Lunch Lab’ on the Menu

A new kids’ & family entertainment label is ready to get cooking with the launch of Pretty Amazing, an original IP incubator and production company spun off from award-winning animation and motion design studio Hero4Hire Creative. Both companies will share executive leadership from Allison Dressler Kramer and Evan Sussman, with Hero4Hire development chief Jordan Beck shifting to head operations for Pretty Amazing.

“We’ve always held content creation as a cornerstone of our studio,” said Kramer. “But as our production pipeline continues to expand, we decided it was time to create a new arm that could focus on developing original concepts into production-ready IP.”

Coinciding with the launch, Pretty Amazing also announced its first property: the return of Emmy-nominated animated series Fizzy’s Lunch Lab on Common Sense Networks’ Sensical channels and OTT streamer batteryPOP, available on smart TVs and connected devices including Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire.

Fizzy’s Lunch Lab, co-created by Sussman, is a food-themed series that teaches kids about healthy eating and kid-friendly cooking. The show was PBS Kids’ first web-exclusive series, earning three Daytime Emmy nominations while also spawning multiple web games and three published books between 2009-2021. Pretty Amazing is currently developing new Lunch Lab content and seeking additional distribution opportunities.

“Hero4Hire started specifically to make Fizzy’s, but has grown exponentially over the years,” added Sussman. “Now, we’re constantly tackling large-scale client projects, so it’s great to have Pretty Amazing as a place to create while Hero4Hire continues to produce at such a high level.”

“We’re a brand-new label, but with 13 years of industry relationships and the same core group of creative minds,” explained Beck. “Beyond the Lunch Lab, we have a full content pipeline and can now shepherd those dreams into viable, accessible entertainment for a variety of audiences and formats. More than anything, we’re looking forward to telling some Pretty Amazing stories.”

  • Armenian Oscar Entry ‘Aurora’s Sunrise’ Gets NorAm Release with Bars Media Films

Armenian Oscar Entry ‘Aurora’s Sunrise’ Gets NorAm Release with Bars Media Films

Bars Media Films, the newly established Los Angeles branch of Armenia’s largest independent documentary production company,  announces its first-ever animated feature — the first-ever animated documentary film made in Armenia — and Armenia’s Official Selection for 95th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film: Aurora’s Sunrise. The film will begin is tour of North American theaters next month.

Directed by Inna Sahakyan (Armenia’s Last Tightrope Dance, Mel), Aurora’s Sunrise premiered in competition at Annecy Festival 2022 and went on to win more than 10 awards, including the Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2022 for Best Animated Film, Movies that Matter 2023 Audience Award and Special Mention Winner, Audience Favorites at IDFA 2022, Audience Awards at Animation is Film 2022 and FIFDH Geneva International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights 2023 for Grand Prix, among others.

The film’s North American release schedule includes openings in New York City at Village East by Angelika and New Plaza Cinema on August 11, in Los Angeles at Laemmle Glendale on August 18 and in Toronto at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema on September 1, with director Inna Sahakyan in-person for Q&As at all three. The film will also roll out in other cities across the U.S. and Canada throughout August and the Fall.

Synopsis: In 1915, as WWI raged on, the Ottoman Empire singled out its entire Armenian population for destruction. Only 14 years old at the time, Aurora Mardiganian’s story was tragically relatable. Forced onto a death march towards the Syrian desert, she lost her entire family before being kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery. Four years later, through luck and extraordinary courage, she escaped to New York, where her story became a media sensation. Starring as herself in the silent epic Auction of Souls, an early Hollywood blockbuster, Aurora became the face of one of the largest and most successful charity campaigns in American history, as one of the first women activists fighting against the injustices of war.

With a blend of vivid animation, interviews with Aurora herself, and 18 minutes of surviving re-discovered footage from her lost silent epic, Aurora’s Sunrise revives a forgotten story of survival, hope and the endurance of the human spirit.

“The Armenian genocide is the enduring pain of my nation,” says Sahakyan. “I was afraid of telling stories that only confirmed Armenians as a nation of victims with no historical agency and nothing but tragedy running through our veins. That is, until I stumbled upon an interview with Aurora Mardiganian while going through archival interviews with Armenian Genocide survivors at the Zoryan Institute. Through her words and expressions, an incredible but ordinary heroism shone: this woman survived a genocide but refused to be a victim. This is the character I wanted to build in Aurora’s Sunrise, resilient, powerful and heartwarming all at once.”

The film was written and directed by Sahakyan, with Gediminas Skyrius as lead illustrator, Ruben Ghazaryan as live-action director & editor, Tigran Arakelyan as art director and music composed by Christine Aufderhaar. Producers are Vardan Hovhannisyan Christian Beetz, Justė Michailinaitė, Kęstutis Drazdauskas and Eric Esrailian.

A co-production between Armenia, Germany and Lithuania, Aurora’s Sunrise is produced by Bars Media Films, Artbox Laisvalaikio Klubas and Gebrueder Beetz Filmproduktion, in co-production with ZD, in collaboration with Arte. This film was made possible with the academic contribution of the Zoryan Institute and is based on its Oral History Archive.

  • Lion Forge Inks First-Look Animation Deal with Nickelodeon

Lion Forge Inks First-Look Animation Deal with Nickelodeon

Lion Forge Entertainment and Nickelodeon Animation today announced a new first-look deal covering animated series and features. The partnership underscores both studios’ commitment to create content that features diverse voices in front of and behind the camera — Lion Forge Ent. is one of the very few Black-owned animation studios in North America, known for telling diverse, authentic stories.

Under the deal, Nickelodeon Animation will have first look access to all Lion Forge Entertainment kids’ and family IP across animated series, features, short form and digital content, and may bring select Nickelodeon and Paramount IP to Lion Forge to develop and produce. The deal also creates optionality for Lion Forge Entertainment to co-finance certain projects the company brings to Nickelodeon, as well as serve as the animation studio on select Nickelodeon projects.

Lion Forge Entertainment currently develops and produces animated and live-action content targeting kids and family, YA and adult audiences, building on the success of earlier Lion Forge Animation projects including the Academy Award-winning Hair Love and the upcoming Iyanu animated series for Max based on Yoruban mythology.

Projects which have already been identified for potential development under the Lion Forge/Nickelodeon deal include: Born Driven, a story based on the life of Wendell Scott, the first Black NASCAR driver; a comedy adventure of warrior Iron’s story Iron Dragon (original IP created by Jay Kim at Mostapes studio in South Korea and Lion Forge); and Marley and the Family Band, an animated series based on Cedella Marley’s picture book of the same title, co-produced by Polygram Entertainment (a film production and development division of Universal Music Group) and Tuff Gong Collective.

“Lion Forge Entertainment is on the vanguard of so many exciting and new stories being told in animation, and we are so incredibly happy to be entering into this deal to create new content together for our global audience,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation.

Lion Forge Ent. CEO David Steward II and President & Chief Content Officer Stephanie Sperber oversaw the deal, which was brokered by Activist Artists Management’s Greg Suess and Jon Kanak. This deal builds on the successful relationship between Sperber and Nickelodeon, in which Sperber oversaw creative IP development and production of the Annie Award-winning The Tiny Chef Show and Bossy Bear, and served as executive producer of Nickelodeon’s live-action series The Astronauts during her time at Imagine Kids+Family Entertainment.

“I am thrilled to work with Ramsey and her world-class teams at Nickelodeon Animation. Nickelodeon has always been a creative north star, and the opportunity to partner in creating new content that features diverse characters and builds a path for diverse talent in the animation industry is incredibly exciting,” said Steward.

Sperber added, “I look forward to continuing the wonderful creative partnership with the Nickelodeon team. Together, we have a fantastic opportunity to impact kids and families around the world by showing diversity on screen as well as creating a pipeline for young diverse talent within the animation industry. Plus, Nickelodeon is one of the best franchise-builders in the business and will be an amazing partner as we together launch into other extensions.”

Lion Forge maintains a strategy to monetize its own IP to build franchises, as well as to create new IP that can be leveraged across its publishing businesses.

  • Blue Fox Ent. Acquires Stop-Mo da Vinci Feature ‘The Inventor’

Blue Fox Ent. Acquires Stop-Mo da Vinci Feature ‘The Inventor’

Blue Fox Entertainment announced today its acquisition of U.S. distribution rights to the animated comedy adventure The Inventor, which made its world premiere in competition at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival last month. The directorial debut of Oscar nominee Jim Capobianco (screenwriter of Ratatouille), Blue Fox wil release the stop-motion film about the life of Leonardo da Vinci in the U.S. theatrically nationwide on August 25.

The Inventor features the voices of Stephen Fry (The Sandman) as Leonardo da Vinci, Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Princess Marguerite de Navarre, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) as Louise De Savoy, actor and French v.o. artist Gauthier Battoue (Emily in Paris, Hotel Transylvania [Fr.]) as King Francis I, Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) as Pope Leo X and L.A.-based clowning performer/director Max Baumgarten (The Idiot Workshop) as Il Boccador and King Charles of Spain.

The film tells the story of the insatiably curious and headstrong inventor/artist Leonardo da Vinci (Fry) as he leaves Italy to join the French court where he can freely experiment, invent flying contraptions and incredible machines, and study the human body. Joined in his adventure by the audacious Princess Marguerite (Ridley), Leonardo attempts to uncover the answer to the ultimate question: “What is the meaning of life?”

The family-friendly feature is written and directed by Capobianco and co-directed by Pierre-Luc Granjon.

“We applaud Jim and his talented team and artist and actors for jumping into the world of stop-motion animation,” said James Huntsman of Blue Fox. “It’s a route few filmmakers take but we are thrilled they did. The results are amazing and we are proud to take Inventor to theaters and audiences nationwide.”

The film is a co-production among the United States, France and Ireland.

“I am thrilled that Blue Fox has leaped forward to bring The Inventor to theaters where audiences can experience Leonardo da Vinci’s adventures on the big screen,” said Capobianco. “His legacy proves that through our actions, we can inspire those around us — girls, boys, women and men — to be curious, to challenge the status quo, to think in new ways, and to be inventors in their own lives.”

The deal for The Inventor was negotiated between Blue Fox, The Exchange, Slated and producer Robert Rippberger of SIE Films. International rights are handled by mk2. In France, the film will be released by KMBO in January 2024.

  • Prepare, Mortals! ‘Krapopolis’ Premieres on FOX September 24

Prepare, Mortals! ‘Krapopolis’ Premieres on FOX September 24

Krapopolis, the all-new animated comedy from Emmy Award winner, creator and executive producer Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty, Community) will make its series debut on FOX with a special two-episode preview event on Sunday, September 24, immediately following the FOX NFL doubleheader (8-9 p.m. ET/5-6 p.m. PT, live to all time zones).

    The “FOX Animation Domination” block returns Sunday, October 1, with all-new seasons of The Simpsons  Season 35 (8:00-8:30 p.m. ET/PT), Krapopolis (time-period premiere 8:30-9:00 p.m. ET/PT), Bob’s Burgers Season 14 (9:00-9:30 p.m. ET/PT) and Family Guy Season 22 (9:30-10:00 p.m. ET/PT).

Set in mythical ancient Greece, Krapopolis tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series features the voices of Emmy Award winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso, Game of Thrones), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows), Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) and Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel).

Ayoade voices Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess. He’s the self-involved, narcissistic King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays Deliria, Tyrannis’ mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Deliria is as petty as she is powerful, and only seems interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus. Berry is Shlub, Tyrannis’ father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He’s the self-described life of the orgy. A true pleasure seeker who thinks that everyone should just chill out and, if they need him for anything, he’ll be down at the bar. Murphy voices Stupendous, Tyrannis’ half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Trussell plays Hippocampus, Tyrannis’ half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.

Krapopolis is owned by FOX Entertainment and produced by FOX’s Bento Box Entertainment. Harmon is creator and executive producer. Steve Levy is executive producer. Jordan Young is executive producer and showrunner (Season 1). Alex Rubens is executive producer and showrunner (Seasons 2 & 3).

Krapopolis, FOX’s first wholly owned animated series, received early renewals for a second and third season last year due to fan response generated by the blockchain digital experience created by FOX’s Web3 company Blockchain Creative Labs, krapopolis.com.

  • ‘Wheel of Time’ Animated Feature ‘The White Tower’ Underway with iwot and Squeeze

‘Wheel of Time’ Animated Feature ‘The White Tower’ Underway with iwot and Squeeze

iwot productions announced today that it is developing The White Tower, a feature-length animated film inspired by Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time fantasy epic, in collaboration with Squeeze Animation Studios.

Squeeze, the award-winning Quebec subsidiary of Cinesite, has created 3D animation for well-known brands, working with studios such as Universal, Illumination, Disney and Marvel across film, TV, game cinematics and theme park experiences.

”The opportunity to bring a unique visual style to the vast immersive world of The Wheel of Time aligns with our company mission and passion to provide high quality animation that entertains and engages audiences of all demographics,” said Squeeze CEO Denis Doré. “Our team is highly motivated to bring this amazing project to life!”

The film will be based on an original story set within Jordan’s vast universe by screenwriter Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous).

“I have been a lifelong fan of the world Robert Jordan created, particularly The White Tower, which serves the mysterious Aes Sedai sisterhood as a capitol, residence, school and fortress,” said Stentz. “It was a dream fulfilled to be offered the opportunity to author a new story that takes place within an iconic setting that will be immediately familiar to Jordan fans around the world.”

The animated feature will be set in a time before the events chronicled in the popular The Wheel of Time television series from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. It is an action-adventure about a young girl with a special gift whose life is forever changed when evil visits her remote mountain village. Finding herself alone in a dangerous world, she must go to The White Tower to learn how to use her magical powers in order to save her family and friends. Rebellious and distrusting, she learns that friendship can be as powerful a weapon against evil as any form of magic.

“The animation platform has given us the means to expand The Wheel of Time experience by targeting a young adult audience while remaining loyal to the world long cherished by Wheel of Time fans,” said Rick Selvage, CEO of iwot productions. “The White Tower is an actionpacked adventure, with a transcendent message of female empowerment that will inspire a new generation of imaginative young women.

The Wheel of Time is an ambitious adaptation to tackle, not only due to its global fan following but the sheer scale of Jordan’s storytelling and world creation. The series’ 14 novels use 4.4 million words to tell a story covering less than three years, while introducing more than 2,750 named characters and a backstory spanning a mythos of 3,000 years.

The film will be produced by Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of iwot productions, and by Zack Stentz of Electric Brain Entertainment. Separately, Selvage and Mondragon serve as executive producers on the television adaptation of The Wheel of Time being co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, available on Amazon’s Prime Video network in more than 200 countries and territories.  Stentz is represented by Susan Solomon at Circle of Confusion and Bryan Swatt at Hansen Jacobson.

No distributor for The White Tower picture has been named at this time.

  • ‘Lackadaisy’ Sets First Public Screening at LA’s Secret Movie Club

‘Lackadaisy’ Sets First Public Screening at LA’s Secret Movie Club

Los Angeles-based Secret Movie Club will present the first public screening of the online phenomenon Lackadaisy: The Animated Short Film at the historic Million Dollar Theater on Wednesday, August 2. The 27-minute animated film will be accompanied by a Q&A with director Fable Siegel. A special poster featuring new artwork designed by Siegel, Keith Daily and Lackadaisy creator Tracy Butler was unveiled today through Animation Magazine.

Since the film debuted on YouTube on March 29, director Siegel’s animated adaptation of Butler’s Eisner Award-nominated webcomic has been viewed almost 10 million times and caught the attention of the likes of iconic animator and director Ralph Bakshi, illustrator Tyson Hesse and director Lilly Wachowski, who praised the “Lush and Gorgeous” animation and “super fun” story.

Set in Prohibition-era St. Louis, Lackadaisy follows a colorful (if somewhat shady) cast of felines that frequent the Lackadaisy, a speakeasy tucked away in a cave beneath the Little Daisy Cafe. The joint’s packed full of gangsters, flappers, crooked cops, rum-runners and wide-eyed ingenues. And they are, literally, all jazz cats.

The short features the voices of Michael Kovach as Rocky Rickaby, Belsheber Rusape as Calvin “Freckle” McMurray, Lisa Reimold as Ivy Pepper, Ashe Wagner as Mitzi May and SungWon Cho as Mordecai Heller. The theme music was provided by Sepiatonic, the Portland-based ‘Electro-Vaudeville’ music and dance performers.

Originally crowdfunded with $330,000 from almost 6,000 backers, Lackadaisy: The Animated Short Film is the first ever multimedia endeavor from Spike Trotman’s publishing label Iron Circus Comics, which has raised nearly $3 million dollars over more than 30 crowdfunding campaigns.

Tickets for the Secret Movie Club screening of Lackadaisy: The Animated short are now available through lackadaisysmc.eventbrite.com.

Lupus Films Teams with JGA Group for Animation Training

Multi award-winning, London-based animation studio Lupus Films has teamed up with training provider the JGA Group to deliver a special training scheme aimed at attracting new talent into the animation industry. The scheme was supported by The JGA Group as part of ‘Creativity Squared’, an initiative to help Londoners, particularly those who are currently out of work, to gain industry relevant skills to help them move into jobs in the creative sector.

Held at Lupus Films’ Islington studio, the scheme saw eleven entry level animators take part in an intensive ten-day training course in 2D assistant animation. Led by Head of Assistant Animation, Denise Dean, the trainees were guided in the principles of keying and inbetweening shots, as well as artworking, using rough animation from Lupus Films’ award-winning production The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The training also included a session of life drawing at North London’s Candid Arts space to help the trainees brush up their anatomical drawing skills.

Five of the animators have now been taken on to work as assistant animators and members of the artwork team on Lupus Films’ exciting new hand-drawn animated special for Channel 4 Mog’s Christmas, based on the picture book by Judith Kerr published by HarperCollins Children’s Book.

The 11 trainees were selected from a call out to recent animation graduates from Middlesex University, Central Saint Martins, London College of Communication, Goldsmiths College and University for the Creative Arts. Whilst all London based, they hailed from China, Portugal and Hong Kong, as well as the U.K.

“It can be exceptionally difficult to get your first break in the animation industry so we are delighted to offer these talented newcomers the opportunity to do just that,” said Abigail Addison, Training and Development Producer, Lupus Films. “The training not only allowed them to brush up on their technical skills but also equipped them with the tools to work on a busy production which they are now putting to great use on Mog’s Christmas.”

Richard Goodwin, MD at The JGA Group, added, “A big thank you is due to the West London Film and Television Skills Hub for making this collaboration possible. It has been great supporting Londoners to upskill into their dream careers in animation and we look forward to helping many more in coming years.”

Lupus Films’ latest hand-drawn animated special, Mog’s Christmas was commissioned by Gwawr Lloyd, Drama Commissioning Editor and Caroline Hollick, Head of Drama at Channel 4 and produced by studio founders Camilla Deakin and Ruth Fielding together with executive producers Juliet Matthews at HarperCollins Children’s Books, Judith Kerr’s children Tacy and Matthew Kneale and Ann-Janine Murtagh.

The film is directed by Robin Shaw (director, The Tiger Who Came to Tea; co-director, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt; asst. director, The Snowman and The Snowdog) and written by Joanna Harrison (adaption, The Tiger Who Came to Tea; co-director, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt; co-writer/art director, The Snowman and The Snowdog).
