TBS Moves Family Guy to Primetime

Classic episodes of Seth McFarlane’s soon-to-be-revived animated series, Family Guy, are set to make another primetime run. According to Daily Variety, the half-hour comedy will join the lineup on cabler TBS beginning July 7. Back-to-back episodes will air on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

TBS’s decision to move Family Guy from afternoons to primetime is part of its major effort to beef up its comedy slate. This week, the cabler began airing cleaned up installments of the HBO hit Sex And The City. Family Guy will serve as a lead-in to Seinfeld, airing at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Family Guy aired on Fox from 1999 to 2002. During that time, it was continually moved around and was ultimately cancelled. In light of brisk DVD sales, Twentieth Century Fox TV ordered 22 new episodes of Family Guy for a midseason run. Cartoon Network, which airs the original episodes during its Adult Swim latenight animation block, will then get a crack at the fresh installments in the fall of 2005.
