French CG-animated feature Kaena: The Prophecy, which officially rolled out in limited North American release in on Friday, will arrive on DVD complete with extra features this fall. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release the sci-fi/fantasy epic on September 7.
Directed by Chris Delaporte and Pascal Pinon from a screenplay by Delaporte, Kaena takes place on a floating tree world known as Axis, where a young rebel must uncover a mystery and lead her people to freedom from an oppressive race of creatures. The English-language dub features the voice talents of Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2), the late Richard Harris (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Angelica Huston (Barbie as Rapunzel, The Life Aquatic), Keith David (The Chronicles of Riddick, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury) and Michael McShane (Treasure Planet, A Bug’s Life).
DVD extra features will include a making-of featurette, a virtual interview with Kaena (voice of original French star), bonus movie trailers and a trailer for Sony Online Entertainment’s EverQuest II.
Kaena: The Prophecy is rated PG-13 and is playing at Laemmle’s Fairfax in Los Angeles, Laemmle’s One Colorado Cinemas in Pasadena, the Village East Theater in New York City and the Angelika Film Center in Houston.
