Daily Variety reports that Disney is preparing to release the 1942 animated classic Bambi on DVD for the first time next year. The extra-feature-loaded, two-disc special edition will arrive at retailers on March 1. A direct-to-video sequel, Bambi 2, is also in production, but may not be released until 2006.
The digitally restored Bambi will feature audio commentary, never-before-seen sequences, a music video and an interactive game hosted by Star Trek and X-Men star Patrick Stewart. The release will also reportedly have voice actors re-creating a production meeting held by Walt Disney during the making of the time-honored family favorite.
Right now the Mouse House is dedicated to promoting its home video release, The Lion King 2: Simbas Pride Special Edition, which hits shelves Aug. 31 and will be followed by a special edition releases of Aladdin on Oct. 5 and Mulan on Oct. 26.
