A literary classic and classic Disney characters come together for swashbuckling fun in the new direct-to-video, animated feature, The Three Musketeers. The musical starring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy debuts today on VHS and DVD.
Directed by Donavan Cook, The Three Musketeers casts the famous toon trio as janitors who long to heroic Musketeers. They finally get their chance when Musketeer captain Peg Leg Pete and his sinister lieutenant, Clarabelle, use them in a dastardly plot to rid the kingdom of Princess Minnie. Its one for all and all for one as the boys use teamwork to turn the tables on Pete and save the day.
DVD extra features include a music video for the song "Three is a Magic Number," a behind-the-scenes documentary, cast commentary, a build-your-own-opera game, four deleted scenes and an activity titled The Many Hats of Mickey. The Buena Vista Home Video release lists for $29.99 on DVD.
Cook lobbied for Disney to release the feature in theaters, but fear of another 2D flop in the wake of Home on the Range insured a video premiere. Next, Mickey and the gang will appear as 3D characters for the first time in Mickeys Twice Upon a Christmas, arriving on DVD and VHS Nov. 9.
