With so many eye-popping visuals to keep viewers occupied, its easy to overlook the great sound featured todays animated and vfx-driven motion pictures. Its good to see, however, that the Academy hasnt overlooked Disney/Pixars The Incredibles, Warner Bros The Polar Express or Sonys Spider-Man 2 when it comes to sound editing.
All three pics are among seven films being considered for the Achievement in Sound Editing this year. Also in the running are Warner Bros. The Aviator, DreamWorks Collateral, 20th Century Foxs The Day After Tomorrow and Universals Ray.
Ten-minute clip reels from each of the seven films will be screened for the Sound Editing Award Committee on January 18. The members will then nominate three of these seven films for Oscar consideration. The nominations will be announced, along with those in 23 other categories, on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 a.m. PST.
The 77th Annual Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC starting at 5 p.m. PST.
