Nokia Adds More Devices To Mobile TV Race

Until recently, it was all about the bandwidth. Or lack of it. TV on your cell phone really wasn’t possible, unless you could live with two frames per-second. That’s quickly changing as cell phone companies continue to unveil a new generation of handsets which, armed with ever-better algorithms, are capable of playing downloaded vid at 15 fps and up.

Cell phone giant Nokia is adding to the revolution with the release of seven new handsets with increasingly accurate digital camera qualities and fast downloads of data and games from the Internet.

Five of the models, in the 6000 series–dubbed “simple pleasures” by the Finnish company because of their easy-to-use qualities–will sell from $170 for the entry level unit to $460 for the high-end phone.

Some of the new handsets, which use 3G, or third-generation technology, will enable faster connections to the Internet, video-sharing features, FM radio and digital sound formats like the popular MP3.

All seven models will be available globally in the second half of this year, Nokia said.
