TELETOON Airs Banned Family Guy

Canadian broadcaster TELETOON is throwing caution to the wind by airing the Family Guy episode that FOX network censors originally rejected. The controversial installment, “When You Wish Upon a Weinstein,’ is scheduled to premiere this Friday, Dec. 23, at 9 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., with encore presentations on Dec. 26 at 9 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

In this previously nixed Family Guy, Peter Griffin buys volcano insurance and sends Lois into a rage over the family’s constant money problems. When Peter wishes for a Jewish “money guy” to help them, a CPA named Max Weinstein comes to the rescue. Peter then decides Chris could turn out to be successful if he converts to Judaism and arranges a quickie bar mitzvah in Las Vegas. Guest voices include Mark Hamill, Ed McMahon, Ben Stein and Mad TV alumni Phil Lamarr and Nicole Sullivan.

FOX eventually aired the installment in question, but not before cutting some references it feared would be perceived as anti-Semitic. The uncut episode eventually made it to Cartoon Network’s [adult swim] and to DVD.

Family Guy is one of the top three series on TELETOON for Adults 18-34, and for all Adults over 18. The show airs on the Network’s late-night block, The Detour, which also features Futurama, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Daft Planet, Delta State, Road Hogs and underGRADS.
