New Pirates Games Debut

In advance of Friday’s theatrical launch of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Disney Interactive Studios today released the new video games based on the Disney summer blockbuster. The various versions are available at retail for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS and Windows PC. More than 2.8 million copies have been shipped to stores worldwide.

In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, gamers take on the roles of Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann and other familiar characters as they navigate treacherous and exotic locations to encounter a wide variety of notorious pirates, mythical creatures and fearsome villains. Players will develop swordsmanship skills throughout the game as they take part in storylines from the film series and explore s new storylines and a unique ending.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions boast high-definition graphics and sound to complement swashbuckling combat, various environments and classic dueling action. The Xbox 360 title features an assortment of challenging achievements for more advanced players and a leader board to globally compare in-game notoriety tallies, while the PS 3 version makes use of the SIXAXIS wireless controller’s motion-sensing technology for beam-balancing mechanics.

Using the Wii Remote, Wii owners can slash and thrust in combat, mimicking the motions of an actual sword. Players will also be able to grab enemies by shaking the Wii Nunchuk. Slashing, parrying and dodging are also accomplished on the Nintendo DS game by running the stylus across the touch screen. The DS game also allows for wireless multiplayer games such as dueling and Liar’s Dice. Cheats will be released through a special Nintendo DS download program available starting today and continuing through Labor Day exclusively at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
