DVD news on the independent front comes today from Blend Films and Microcinema, who have released Liquid Tales-The Animation of Patrick Smith. Available in stores and at the Blend Films Store (www.blendfilms.com/liquid_tales.html), the disc contains the complete collection of films by Smith, a festival favorite who has also directed episodes of MTV’s Daria and Downtown, among other shows.

Liquid Tales highlights Smith’s signature bizarre morphing style and symbolic stories of identity and emotion with five award-winning short films including Handshake, Moving Along, Drink and Delivery. The most recent work, Puppet, just won major accolades at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and has picked up ten international festival awards. Smith’s work can also be seen is a number of television commercials, including the Zoloft spots for Pfizer. He is a senior thesis advisor at the Pratt Institute in New York, a fellow with the New York Foundation of the Arts and a curator for multiple international film and animation festivals. His studio is located in Tribeca, New York City. Smith will be at Platform Animation Festival in Portland on June 25, curating the late night show Animation from HELL!.
