Activision’s Spider-Man 3 video game has arrived at retail just in time for the theatrical debut of the eagerly awaited movie from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures. The title allows gamers to explore their dark sides as they web sling through New York city in the traditional, heroic red suit or the mysterious new black suit that gives Peter Parker intoxicating and frightening new powers in the film.

Featuring the voices and likenesses of Tobey Maguire, Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church, James Franco and J.K. Simmons, the Spider-Man 3 game is set in a large, free-roaming city environment which includes more than 20 miles of subterranean space to explore. Players can choose to follow the film plot, or engage in comic-book storylines and original adventures as they fight off crime waves and battle super-villains while harnessing the power of the black suit.

Performance rewards include improved speed, combat maneuvers and agility, and an all-new combat system allows players to perform a huge variety of suit-specific attacks. A number of expanded aerial and ground fighting tactics, finishing moves and dynamic webbing attacks can be employed to protect the city, complete challenges and defeat nemeses during missions and epic boss battles with villains from the movie the comic books.

The Wii and PlayStation2 versions deliver two exclusive storylines featuring the notorious Marvel villains Shriek and Morbius. In addition, the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers’ capabilities give players a unique new way of web shooting and swinging through the city. Meanwhile, the Nintendo DS title, a 3D side scrolling experience, offers complete touch screen handling for a wide variety of city-based missions and multiple movie-based and original story arcs. Through local wireless connections, players can also engage in two-player challenges like Brawler, Hot Potato, Target Practice and Combo Challenge.
