Creature feature fans will want to pick up Primeval, one of the more satisfying movies of its kind to come along since Lake Placid and Anaconda. Buena Vista Home Entertainment released the horror-action-adventure flick on DVD today and was kind enough to supply us with links to streaming clips and a behind-the-scenes look at the real-life terror behind the story of a massive killer crocodile that is said to have killed more than 300 people Central Africa.
Directed by TV veteran Michale Katleman, Primeval stars Prison Break‘s Dominic Purcell as a disgraced television reporter who takes a camera crew to Burundi in hopes of capturing the legendary Gustave, a 25-foot croc who made national headlines when he attacked and killed a world-renown forensic scientist who was uncovering mass graves in the area. In addition to surviving run-ins with the one-ton reptile, the team also has to deal with the threat of a bloodthirsty local warlord who goes by the name ‘Little Gustave.’ The cast also includes Orlando Jones (Evolution), Brooke Langton (Benchwarmers) and Jurgen Prochnow (The Da Vinci Code).
Luma Pictures handled the lion’s share of the digital creature effects work for the production and did a stellar job on the CG-animated croc. The DVD offers a look at how Luma created the creature in a featurette titled Croc-umentary: Bringing Gustave to Life. Other bonus features will include lost footage, deleted scenes with an optional director commentary and optional feature-length commentary with Katleman.
