Harvey Birdman Dies?

Adult Swim will air ‘Death of Harvey,’ the final episode of the hit late-night animated series Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, on Sunday, July 22. The episode marks the end of a six-year run for the show about a cartoon superhero who now works as a lawyer and represents classic characters from the Hanna-Barbara animation library.

Created by Michael Ouweleen and Erik Richter in 2001, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law is a spoof of the 1967 Hanna-Barbera cartoon show Birdman & The Galaxy Trio, which was just recently released on DVD. In this latest incarnation, the winged superhero is joined by sidekicks Peanut and Avenger as he takes on cases for a myriad of recognizable characters including Fred Flintstone, Scooby-Doo, Funky Phantom and Captain Caveman. The show features the voices of Stephen Colbert, Gary Cole, John Michael Higgins, Peter MacNicol, Paget Brewster and Chris Edgerly, among others.

The season 4 closer, ‘Death of Harvey,’ is the 39th episode in the series. When Harvey’s previous 38 cases are recalled by the courts, our hero sinks into a drunken depression before pulling himself together with the help of his winged sidekicks. Revitalized and back in fighting form, Harvey must defeat former client Nitron in order to defend the city in true superhero form. The half-hour installment will air Sunday at 11:45 p.m. Incidentally, the Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law Vol. 3 DVD hits stores this Tuesday and lists for $20.98.
