The start of summer brings a new chance to relax and take a break from the heat with animated favorites ranging from Tom and Jerry to Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Tom and Jerry: Deluxe Anniversary Collection (Warner Bros., $26.99) compiles 30 of the famous duo’s best short films on two discs. This set includes seven Oscar-winning cartoons and excerpts from Anchors Aweigh, in which Jerry dances with Gene Kelly, and Dangerous When Wet, which saw the animated duo perform a synchronized swimming sequence with Esther Williams.
Fans of more modern cartoons can immerse themselves in Avatar: The Last Airbender ‘ The Complete Book 1 Collector’s Edition (Paramount, $57.99) The seven-disc set includes the entire first ‘book’ of the series and is packed with bonus features, including a sneak peek at M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action movie adaptation, titled simply The Last Airbender, due for release July 1.
Coming to high-definition disc for the first time is Afro Samurai: The Complete Murder Sessions (FUNimation, $39.98 Blu-ray) and Guyver: The Complete Collection (FUNimation, $54.98 Blu-ray).
Sony’s hit feature gets an added dimension with a new 3D Blu-ray release of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (Sony, $39.95 Blu-ray 3D).
Also out this week are Bleach Vol. 29 (VIZ Media, $24.92) and the kiddie title Franklin: Franklin Goes to Camp (Phase 4 Films, $9.99).



Could’ve been better if they included opening credits for “Cosmic Cat And Meteor Mouse” in the set…
