MoMA Hosts Animators Wilczynski, Hykade

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City will present an evening with inventive animated filmmakers Andreas Hykade of Germany and Mariusz Wilczynski of Poland on May 7 at 8 p.m. Presented in association with the Polish Cultural Institute in New York and the Goethe Institute New York, the special program is part of the museum’s MediaScope series, which offers a look at innovative work in film, video, web-based, installation and digital art practices.

Attendees will be treated to five short films by each filmmaker, including the U.S. premiere of Hykade’s The Runt (2006) and the world premiere of Wilczynski’s Kizi Mizi (2007), which the artist describes as “a tough love story between a cat and a mouse’a film about loneliness, betrayal, and revenge.”

Other films on the program include Wilczynski’s Times Have Passed (1998), From the Green Hill (1999), Death to Five (2002) and his award-winning short, Unfortunately (2004). Filling out the lineup of Hykade films are We Lived in Grass (1995), Ring of Fire (2000), Tired Out Tom (2002), and Tom & the Poor Little Girl(2002).

Both Wilczynski and Hykade will both be present at the screening and will participate in a Q&A session. General admission is $10, $8 for seniors and $6 for students. Same-day tickets can be purchased at the lobby information desk and at the Film and Media Desk at MoMA. Tickets can also be purchased at www.moma.org.
