  • POGO & Cartoon Network Announce Three Homegrown Toons for 2020

POGO & Cartoon Network Announce Three Homegrown Toons for 2020

POGO and Cartoon Network, part of WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks Asia Pacific family of channels, are ramping up their original Indian productions with three new homegrown animated comedies. POGO has commissioned both Titoo and Lambuji Tinguji, produced by Cosmos Maya, and Cartoon Network has acquired Bandbudh Aur Budbak from Paperboat Studios.

“Our top priority is our fans, and they love characters and great stories. These quintessentially Indian shows will resonate strongly with them,” commented Abhishek Dutta, Senior Director & Network Head of Cartoon Network and POGO in South Asia. “We commissioned Titoo and Lambuji Tinguji and acquired Bandbudh Aur Budbak for their clever use of comedy and humor. They all feature visual richness and robust characters, embedded in unique animated worlds and stories. The creativity and talent now seen in the Indian animation industry has developed tremendously and the commitment made to three homegrown IPs is testament to our belief in the industry to create world-class entertainment.”

Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks in South Asia, added, “India continues to be a priority market for WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks in Asia Pacific. Investing in three new shows for POGO and Cartoon Network in 2020 further demonstrates our commitment to scaling up and sustaining the quality of our kids’ entertainment.”

As original productions, Titoo and Lambuji Tinguji offer myriad advertising opportunities, including brand association and licensing partnerships. Ahead of the launch of these tentpole shows, brand integration and branded content production are being explored. Partners could also be a part of POGO’s nationwide promotional launch activities including mall events, digital promotions and on-air activations. These will ramp up in the months leading up to the launch and carry on during the initial airing on the channel, with additional sustaining tactics to maintain the excitement.

Titoo (POGO) is a rip-roaring comedy that follows the daily escapades of eight-year-old Titoo. He is a good-hearted, intelligent kid who loves to help everyone, but inadvertently manages to brew even more trouble. Titoo’s world includes his parents, his loving and protective brother, and his gang of friends, who get caught in his shenanigans.

A slapstick buddy comedy, Lambuji Tinguji (POGO) explores the funny escapades of the inseparable eponymous duo in Buddy Badi Valley. Whether it’s fighting crime or eating at a fancy new place or helping a citizen, they’re always together in every adventure. Of course, they have their own trysts with trouble thanks to Tinguji’s big mouth, and are always saved by the calm and composed Lambuji.

Bandbudh Aur Budbak (Cartoon Network) is an award-winning animation following the amusing capers of two 10-year-old boys, Budhdeb and Badrinath. Thick as thieves, the two pranksters are inexplicably at the center of all ruckus, usually going scot-free with luck or an irrational argument.

  • Trailer: The Mitchells Get ‘Connected’ Amid an Energetically Animated Apocalypse

Trailer: The Mitchells Get ‘Connected’ Amid an Energetically Animated Apocalypse

Sony Pictures Animation has dropped the official trailer for Connected (formerly known as The Mitchells vs The Machines) — a family road trip comedy gone haywire from director Mike Rianda (Gravity Falls) and Oscar-winning producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The LEGO Movie).

The spot introduces the Mitchell family, a typical modern clan drifting apart in an age of perpetual screen time. When the nature-loving dad foists one last road trip on his college-bound daughter, the squabbling family finds themselves fighting a greater threat: a global tech doomsday. In the trailer, we see that this latest Lord/Miller project continues the duo’s tradition of playing with punchy animated flourishes, with the cartoony-yet-slick CG sometimes filtered over by AR-app-inspired doodles and exaggerated caricatures.

    …And who doesn’t love a bug-eyed, overweight pug?!

Connected arrives in U.S. theaters on September 18.

Synopsis: When Katie Mitchell (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a creative outsider, is accepted into the film school of her dreams, her plans to meet “her people” at college are upended when her nature-loving dad Rick (Danny McBride) determines the whole family should drive Katie to school together and bond as a family one last time. Katie and Rick are joined by the rest of the family – Katie’s wildly positive mom Linda (Maya Rudolph), her quirky little brother Aaron (Mike Rianda), and the family’s delightfully chubby pug Monchi – for the ultimate family road trip. Suddenly, the Mitchells’ plans are interrupted by a tech uprising: all around the world, the electronic devices people love – from phones, to appliances, to an innovative new line of personal robots – decide it’s time to take over. With the help of two friendly malfunctioning robots, the Mitchells will have to get past their problems and work together to save each other … and the world!

Director Rianda and co-director / fellow Gravity Falls alum Jeff Rowe penned the script. Lord and Miller produce with Kurt Albrecht; exec producers are Will Allegra and Louis Koo.

  • Vivement Lundi Joins ‘Of Unwanted Things and People’ Production

Vivement Lundi Joins ‘Of Unwanted Things and People’ Production

French production company Vivement Lundi! (The Horn Quartet, Memorable, Dimitri) has partnered on Eastern European animated feature project Of Unwanted Things and People, co-produced by Maur Film (Czech Republic), Artichoke (Slovakia) and ZVVIKS (Slovenia). The 70-minute stop-motion film was pitched at Cartoon Movie 2019, where it received the Eurimage Co-Production Development Award.

Adapted from short stories by Czech author Arnost Goldflam, Of Unwanted Things and People is built on the premise of an aging writer who decides to leave a legacy of stories for his grandchildren. In his tales, the old man tackles themes that are often considered taboo in children’s stories, but which can prove essential in their social development: the death of parents, the loneliness of elderly people whose lives are driven by routines, the fugue of a little boy who feels misunderstood by his parents and who finds refuge in a strange and wonderful universe.

Patricia Ortiz Martinez (Fimfarum: The Third Time Lucky) serves as art director on the project. Production will be shared between the four co-pro countries, overseen by four co-directors. Three directors — Ivana Laucikova (The Last Bus), Leon Vidmar (Farewell) and David Sukup (Fimfarum: The Third Time Lucky) — have already been confirmed.

After meeting with the producers during last year’s CEE Animation Workshop (www.ceeanimation.eu/workshop), Vivement Lundi! got to know the project and signed a co-development agreement in January with the Czech, Slovak and Slovenian partners. The co-producers are currently working on the development of the script and hope to be able to start production next September. The budget is €2.5 million (~$2.8 million USD).

Based in Rennes, Vivement Lundi! has produced animated films and series for over 20 years. The company received the Cartoon Tribute for European Producer of the Year at Cartoon Movie 2015. Memorable, the studio’s latest stop-motion animated short, is an international success with three Annecy Festival 2019 awards and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short this year.

Besides Of Unwanted Things and People, Vivement Lundi! is currently co-producing three other feature films: Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, a Danish film produced by Final Cut For Real and the studio Sun Creature, wrapping post-production; Dogs and Italians Not Allowed by Alain Ughetto, a stop-motion animated feature produced by Les Films du Tambour de Soie currently being filmed in Valence, France at Folioscope Studio; Yuku by Arnaud Demuynck and Rémi Durin, a Belgian animated musical for young audiences produced by Artemis, in the funding stage.

At Cartoon Forum 2020, Vivement Lundi! will present its 2D feature film for kids and families, The Horn Quartet, adapted from the books by Yves Cotten and directed by Benjamin Botella. The movie project follows successful Horn Quartet TV specials produced by Vivement Lundi! and distributed by Superights.

To see a small, independent film win at France’s most prestigious awards ceremony against such brilliant contenders, is not only an immense privilege but also demonstrates an extraordinary inclination from the César Academy for innovation in animation,” said du Pontavice. “These awards are also testament to Xilam’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of animation and nurturing game-changing talent who we know will forge new and ground-breaking paths in the genre.”

I Lost My Body, based on the book Happy Hand by Guillaume Laurant (co-screenwriter with Clapin), follows a young man named Naoufel as he falls in love with Gabrielle. ‘Artemis Fowl’ Accepts a Magical Secret Mission in Disney Trailer

Disney has dropped the official trailer and poster art for upcoming live-action feature Artemis Fowl, which brings author Eoin Colfer’s beloved 12-year-old criminal mastermind to the big screen in a fantastical adventure punched up with high-stakes VFX action and otherworldly CG creatures. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film hits U.S. theaters on May 29.

“Disney and Kenneth Branagh have magically found a way to extract my imagination, mixed in a dollop of Disney magic and projected the enchanted concoction onto the silver screen,” said Colfer. “I am very excited for audiences to see the film.”

“Eoin Colfer created a landmark series of books and a totally original world of characters. We hope that fans familiar with this charismatic anti-hero, will also join a first-time cinema audience in enjoying a sea of surprises – cunning twists and turns in a typical Artemis Fowl style,” said Branagh. “His Irish adventures are breathless, exhilarating, energized escapades on a truly global scale. Inspired by his legendary cheekiness and wit, we’ve been privileged to introduce the myth from the page and hopefully create a new hero for the big screen. It’s been a real joy to be on that ride.”

Descended from a long line of criminal masterminds, 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

Synopsis: Disney’s Artemis Fowl, based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared. With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization — the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan — so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.

Artemis Fowl is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel and Adrian Scarborough, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench.

Kenneth Branagh, p.g.a. and Judy Hofflund, p.g.a. are producing with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive producers. Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl wrote the screenplay.
