[adult swim] Adds Shows, Day

Cartoon Network’s late-night sister network [adult swim] announced its new programming slate for 2007 during its Upfront presentation in New York City on Thursday. In addition to adding three new series, including the previously announced animated show Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil, the network will tack on an extra day in order serve fans seven nights a week starting Friday, July 6, at 11 p.m.

After some delay, it looks like Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil will finally debut this summer. After the pilot aired in 2005, [adult swim] ordered 10 episodes and had the series slated to premiere in 2006. Created by Loren Bouchard, an exec producer on Home Movies, the toon finds its title character living in San Francisco and dating a great new guy who might just be the Second Coming. The only problem is that her dad, Satan, keeps meddling in her life and uses her relationship as an excuse to hasten the apocalypse.

The other two new shows are live-action comedies titled Fat Guy Stuck In Internet and Superjail. Fat Guy Stuck In Internet revolves around hot-shot programmer Ken Gemberling, who is accidentally sucked into the worldwide web and finds himself on a quest of epic proportions. Created by John Gemberling and Curtis Gwinn, the show started as a cult hit on the Internet and will make its [adult swim] debut this fall.

Superjail takes place in the most violent prison complex in the universe, where the staff and inmates cower under the watchful eye of the mysterious Warden, who presides over them like a sadistic Willy Wonka. The psychedelic landscape features dangerous criminals, fantastic creatures, bizarre contraptions and frequent riots. Created by Christy Karacas, Stephen Warbrick and Ben Gruber, Superjail is set to debut in 2008.

Ongoing [adult swim] series to get additional episode orders include the stop-motion shows Moral Orel from Dino Stamatopoulos and Robot Chicken from Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. New episodes of Moral Orel will begin airing on April 29 and the show has been picked up for another season. The third season of Robot Chicken will premiere this summer.

The animated Frisky Dingo from Sealab 2021 co-creators Matt Thompson and Adam Reed has been picked up for a second season to debut this summer, and Metalocalypse from co-creators and exec producers Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha will see new episodes starting this fall. Assy McGee from Matt Harrigan and Carl Adams has been given a second season order and will return in 2008.

The Peabody Award-winning animated series The Boondocks from comic-strip creator Aaron McGruder will finally have its second season debut this fall. The critically acclaimed hit series debuted with a bang in 2005 but new episodes have been held up due to a long production schedule and Comedy Central’s request for five additional installments to fill out the season.

Other animated [adult swim] staples returning with new episodes this fall are Jackson Publick’s The Venture Bros and Jim Fortier’s and Dave Willis’ Squidbillies. Aqua Teen Hunger Force from Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis will go into its fifth season in 2008, while Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law from creators Michael Ouweleen and Erik Richter will sing its swan song with its final episodes slated to air later this year.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job from Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim has also received a season two pick-up and new episodes of Saul of the Mole Men from creators Peter Giardi, Craig Lewis and Tom Stern are currently airing. Both series mix live-action with animated elements.
