Warner Home Video today released the first season of Hanna-Barbera’s Wait Till Your Father Gets Home on DVD for the first time ever. Available just in time for Father’s Day, the four-disc set features 24 episodes of the 1972 primetime series that spun off from a segment on the show Love American Style. Also hitting retail today is the first season of the animated series Silverwing from Bardel Ent. and FUNimation.

Wait Till Your Father Gets Home is a generational comedy that revolves around the Boyles, a lovable dysfunctional American family living in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Tom Bosley of Happy Days fame lends his voice to the role of Harry Boyle, a conservative father and everyman trying to come to terms with the changing world around him while learning to deal with his liberal kids. His youngest, Jamie, is voiced by actor Jackie Earle Haley, who recently received an Academy Award nomination for his role in Little Children.

DVD special features will include a retrospective featurette titled Animation for the Nation, which highlights the history of the series and time period in which it is set. Also featured is Illustrating the Times, a look at the show’s animation and how it ‘crossed the line of poetic license and danced around the exaggerated version of an American family.’ The disc set carries a suggested retail price of $44.98. Bardel’s Silverwing is based on the best-selling book trilogy by author Kenneth Oppel. The fantasy adventure series follows the exploits of a teenage bat whose bravado leads him on an epic odyssey. The story begins with the famed tale of the great battle between the birds and the beasts. Since they chose not to take sides, the bats were banished to the nighttime skies, never allowed to see the sun. Dared by a bully, our hero, Shade, breaks the centuries-old law and must set things right when he brings dire consequences upon his colony. The series first aired in the fall of 2003 on TELETOON. Fans can pick up the season one disc for the suggested retail price of $14.98.

Other TV toons making their way to home video today include the Discovery Kids shows Kenny the Shark and Tutenstein. The network as put out two volumes of each series, with each disc containing four to six episodes. The individual DVDs can be had For $14.95 or less.
