Citing Nielsen Video Scan sales data, FUNimation Ent. says its Dragon Ball Z Season One is the best-selling anime home video release so far this year. A digitally remastered and restored collection of the first 39 episodes known as the ‘Vegeta Saga,’ the title hit retail in February and has helped FUNimation increase its position as a market share leader in anime tailored for audiences in the U.S.
“Dragon Ball Z is a tremendously popular brand with a constantly growing fanbase,” says FUNimation president and CEO Gen Fukunaga. “With the help of the loyal Dragon Ball Z fans and a new generation of fans, Dragon Ball Z continues to reign as one of the most popular anime franchises in the United States.”
Dragon Ball Z Season One is available at the suggested retail price of $49.98. FUNimation has digitally re-mastered and restored all 291 episodes of the Dragon Ball Z series and plans to release them all various in season sets. The next set, Dragon Ball Z Season Two, will debut on Tuesday, May 22, and includes the entire ‘Namek’ and ‘Ginyu’ sagas (35 episodes). The Namek episodes have never before been released on DVD.
